I still remember meeting Dr. Lin Day for the first time back in 2015 when I went to be trained as Baby Sensory class leader. I was very excited by the thought of meeting this lady who is the sheer force and brain behind this wonderful program for babies, which I had attended with my daughter when she was just a few months old. I have to say I was greatly inspired by her enthusiasm and energy, and how passionately she spoke about young children and their development.
Dr. Lin Day (PhD, M.Phil, PGCE, BSc, Dip Ed, SRN) ) is one of the UK’s leading parenting experts and a renowned author in the field of childcare and education. Lin is probably more well known outside the UK as the founder of multi award-winning Baby Sensory, a parent child program specifically designed for children from 0-13 months focused on boosting brain, motor and sensory development in young babies.
Lin has over 35 years of practical experience working with babies and toddlers. She started as a paediatric nurse, working with children with special needs and critically ill babies. She then went on to learn sign language and worked with children with sensory impairments, before returning to college to further study about childcare and education.
It was in 2004 that Dr. Lin Day started running her own Baby Sensory classes in Salisbury, UK. The primary motivation was the observation that there were no quality programs for babies who were less than a year old. Lin noticed that babies mostly tagged along with their older siblings for classes, rather than being part of a class themselves; and parents often didn’t realize how quality interactions in the first year can boost their children’s overall development. This led to the start of a fun activity class for babies from 1-13 months of age and their parents- where the babies are part of a variety of stimulating activities that aid in their development and the parents take away valuable developmental information about early years from every class.
As they say, the rest is history! Owing to the popularity of her classes, she first franchised the program in 2006. The franchise network quickly spread throughout the UK, and today Baby Sensory is run in over 35 countries across the world including India. Owing to repeated requests from parents for a follow-on program for the children who complete Baby Sensory, Lin started Toddler Sense, an activity program for 1-5 year olds. Both the programs have gone on to win multiple awards in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and other countries. Today the Baby Sensory franchise network offers a variety of programs including Mini Professors - a science program for young children, Reading Fairy - a program focused on reading, Baby Foundations - a program for pregnant mothers, amongst others; and even includes a range of toys being sold under the name ‘Say Hello’.
It was a proud moment for me when our company was awarded the privilege of bringing these wonderful programs to India and the neighbouring countries and when I became the master trainer for the region. Of all the programs Baby Sensory will remain close to my heart and the most special, as I have so many precious memories attending the classes with my daughter.
Today as we touch babies with the magic of Baby Sensory, I can only thank Dr. Lin Day for her years of dedicated work in the field of early years’ learning and development, which is helping each of us do our bit to make the world a better place and provide the best for our future generations.
